Karolina Muchova to face Coco Gauff in Wimbledon 2026 semi-finals after securing straight-sets win over Naomi Osaka

Karolina Muchova roared into her first ever Wimbledon semi-final with a convincing win over Naomi Osaka.

The Czech had come up short in two previous quarter-final appearances in SW19 but made it third time lucky with a 7-6 6-4 victory over the four-time Grand Slam champion.

The match commenced with four straight breaks as Muchova pegged the former world No.1 back twice in quick succession.

Both players eventually found rhythm on serve in what turned into a high-quality exchange, but it was Muchova who pulled clear to win a tie-break 7-4 and with it a 57-minute opener.

In a repeat of the recent Bad Homburg final, which saw Osaka retire in the second set with a foot problem, it was the 10th seed who came out on top as the Japanese fired a wild drive volley off court to surrender her serve in the ninth game, allowing the Czech to serve out to love with a pair of aces.

The Japanese conjures up another ace but double faults again to prolong the tension.

A tight forehand coughs up break point, but Karolina feels it too and drifts a very make-able slice wide.

The Czech puts her hand to her face in dismay but works her way to another chance and this time makes the breakthrough when a desperate lob sees Osaka inexplicably flash a drive volley off the island.  

Osaka stops dead and gives her team a look of resignation.

It comes when she fails to land her return at Pulp (30-30) after a rasping forehand down the line had raised the stakes.

Muchova remains focused on her own game and edges level with a timely ace.

Osaka slams down two aces from 15-30 down to take her tally to seven and keep leading heading into the business end of the second.

Muchova is a joy to watch at times.

The Czech has real variety and artistry and it’s on show here in a rampant love hold as she conjures up a bewitching lob under pressure to leave Osaka swinging her racquet in vain.

Osaka resists the overtures of Muchova, getting her reward with a hefty second serve to dig out the hold to 30 and maintain that scoreboard advantage.

Meanwhile, Karolina has called for the trainer to assist with something in her eye!

Muchova continues to look the part out there as she dances into a forehand winner up the line to ease level via the hold to 15.

Alarm bells blare for Osaka when a double fault piques Karolina’s interest at 0-30.

The Japanese roars back and claims game point with an ace, but the Czech swishes away a backhand winner to make deuce.

The 10th seed keeps the heat on the four-time Major winner and earns break point with a sizzling forehand return winner down the line.

Naomi nails a clutch serve to erase it and Muchova swings her racquet in irritation when she knocks a make-able backhand into the net.

Osaka wriggles free from there to keep pushing the board early in the second.

Muchova is oozing with confidence right now and zooms through a love hold with a fabulous backhand winner down the line the pick of her points.

Osaka returns from a spell off court and romps through a hold to 15 as she looks to mount the recovery here.

Muchova earns an immediate mini break and pulls further clear when Osaka fires off the island, allowing the Czech to bag the insurance heading to the change of ends.

Osaka ends a high-quality rally with a stonking forehand winner down the line but a 1-2 backhand punch long helps Karolina to hit back from 30-0 down.

The Japanese is relieved to see the Czech’s loopy defence land just long and fires another forehand winner down the line to take us into a breaker.

Osaka turns the screw at 0-30 with another marvellous forehand pass down the line on the run.

The 14th seed has chances to carve out multiple break points but bunts a low mid-court backhand into the net before firing long off the same wing.

Muchova gets some fortune when a volley slams into the tape and bounces over but she shows her nerves with a tight forehand into the net off a rallying ball.

The Czech’s inner butterflies again present with a double fault, but she wipes out the BP with a fizzing forehand 1-2 punch before finally plotting an escape route via an overhead and a missed return from the Japanese.

Muchova can’t find the island going big on the return and it allows Osaka to handle the scoreboard pressure as she wraps up a routine hold to 15 with a wide ace.

Osaka roars as she looks to press with a scorching backhand pass down the line.

However, the Japanese is frustrated when she drags a crosscourt forehand a whisker wide at 15-15 and Karolina doesn’t let up from there with a solid hold for the loss of the one point.

Osaka bursts through Muchova’s magnificent defence with a sizzling crosscourt backhand but gets stung at 30-0 up by a wonderful forehand return winner down the line.

Naomi shrugs it off and ends up sealing a hold to 30 with a searing crosscourt forehand.

The Czech has got her Mojo flowing on serve now and it's another efficient hold to love that sees her maintain the scoreboard advantage heading into the business end of this opener.

Muchova dominates in the forecourt with some exceptional volleys and throws in an even better short-slice winner on the run to snare another break point from 30-0 down.

Osaka replies with a trio of timely first serves to wipe it out and scamper free from deuce.
