Top seed Aryna Sabalenka defeats Jelena Ostapenko on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026 to set up blockbuster last-16 clash with Naomi Osaka

Aryna Sabalenka booked her spot in the round of 16 after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in a big-hitting contest on Centre Court.

The world No. 1 didn’t have it all her own way, but delivered in the big moments to secure a 6-4 6-4 victory.

The Belarusian broke for a 3-2 lead in a hard-fought 43-minute opener, and went on to serve out to love on her second set point.

There were a flurry of breaks at the start of the second set, with Sabalenka racing into a 4-1 lead.

Ostapenko clawed one back, but the top seed always looked to have another gear, and served out to 30 to set up a round of 16 clash with Naomi Osaka.

Sabalenka has claimed 36 Grand Slam wins as top seed, equalling Billie Jean King (36) for the ninth-most in the Open Era.
