Defending champions Gloucester are seeking to reach the PWR final for the fourth season in a row as they prepare to face semi-final debutants Trailfinders on Sunday afternoon.

Trailfinders will be looking to cause a major upset but head into the clash with confidence after defeating Gloucester in a thriller on the penultimate weekend of the regular season.

Gloucester were denied a place in a fourth straight Premiership Women's Rugby final, after they were beaten 29-26 by the Trailfinders in a thrilling last-four clash.

Barney Maddison's side, only in their third season of existence, shocked the reigning champions with a spirited display at Queensholm.

Tatyana Heard gave the hosts an early lead, but the visitors wrestled control of the first half.

Maya Montiel replied and Meg Jones completed the turnaround, before Isla Norman-Bell and Emma Uren stretched the advantage to 24-7 at the break.

A resurgent Gloucester cut the deficit to 24-21 with Rachel Lund and Georgia Brock going over to give them hope.

However, a couple of superb bursts from Meg Jones and Carys Cox allowed Norman-Bell to race clear and put the visitors two scores to the good once more.

Hannah Dallavalle crossed to keep Gloucester alive heading into the final 10 minutes, but the Trailfinders held on to stun their hosts.

"It was a really high-tempo game, but that's what our team is made for," she says.

"We had no pressure on this game. We set a goal for the season to make the top four, and we knew we'd done that. So we thought: 'why not make it into the final, and the top two, and win it in a couple of weeks?'

"We knew it was going to be a game right down to the 80 minutes. We knew Gloucester were going to come out in the second half. We maybe didn't start it the way we wanted, but a big improvement in finishing games compared to earlier in the season.

"[Whoever we play in the final] will put up a big fight."

It is worth remembering this is only the Trailfinders' third year of existence. Already, though, they are through to their first Premiership Women's Rugby final.

Despite entering the three-time reigning champions' backyard, they had clearly not read the script.

Inspired performances from the likes of Claire Gallagher and Meg Jones set them on their way to a 24-7 half-time lead.

They then withstood Gloucester's second-half fightback, and took their chance when it arrived to restore their control on proceedings.

The visitors also held firm as the hosts sought a late match-winning try, booking their place in the final.
