Chelsea 1-0 Djurgarden: UEFA Conference League result as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fires Enzo Maresca's side into final

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's first-half strike was enough to send Chelsea through to the UEFA Conference League final, as Enzo Maresca's side progressed with a 5-1 aggregate victory.

The former Leicester midfielder latched onto Tyrique George's through ball and produced a fine mazy run through the Djurgarden defence before firing a clinical left-footed strike in off the post.

Maresca made 10 changes to the side which overcame newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday, with only Marc Cucurella remaining in the line-up.

Several Blues youngsters impressed on the night, including 16-year-old Reggie Walsh, who was making his first senior start.

George also produced a stellar display upfront, while Josh Acheampong also showed that same youthful exuberance at left-back.

There was also time for Maresca to bring on Shim Mheuka and Genesis Antwi - both 17 - proving that the future is certainly bright in west London, with the club's starlets all seizing their opportunities to impress.

The task facing Djurgarden already looked to be an insurmountable one heading into tonight's second leg, but the occasion was not lost on the travelling contingent of fans from Sweden, who made a rapturous noise inside Stamford Bridge.

They will be pleased by the heart that their players showed, with an admirable mention for Daniel Stensson and Tobias Gulliksen, who both showed plenty of endeavour on the night.

However, it is Chelsea's fans who will be booking their flights to Poland, for a match against either Fiorentina or Real Betis.

Joe Cole believes that winning the Conference League final on May 28, along with achieving Champions League qualification, would mark a hugely successful season for Enzo Maresca's side.

He told TNT Sports: "Massive, massive three weeks for the club. It's great to see the performances really picking up in the last four games. Tonight was decent, job done performance-wise, but the three previous performances, Liverpool, Everton, and over in Sweden were really good.

"If Chelsea were to make the Champions League and win this in Enzo Maresca's first season in charge, I think that is a brilliant season for the club. You look at the players and the way they're moving the ball, and their body language, they look confident. They look up for it. Sunday now is going to be a massive game."

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall spoke to TNT Sports immediately after the game, as he reflected on reaching the Conference League final.

When asked about what it means to get to Wroclaw, he said: "Amazing. We set out at the start of the season to get as far as we can in this tournament. It's been a long couple of months, but one more game to go, and hopefully we can lift that trophy.

"It was a game where we had to be patient. Thankfully, I saw a little bit of space, showed a bit of composure and it was nice to get the goal.

"It would mean everything. I'm not going to sugar-coat it. A lot of people said at the start of the season that we need to win this. I have to say if we do win this, we deserve a lot of credit. I know what football is like, it's not easy.

"There are tens of teams in this tournament and hundreds of players trying to win. I think if we do win it, which I hope we can, I think the lads and the staff deserve a lot of credit because we've had pressure from the first matchday, and we've been professional and dedicated, and now we've got one more game.

"I'm just here to try and guide them. We had Reggie [Walsh] playing today, who's 16 years old. That's mental. He was fantastic, composed. My job's just to say to them: 'Play the game that got you here. Don't make it too big of an occasion.' And you see that with the players that played, very calm, very composed. That's a credit to the academy."

We will have an all-English Europa League final, as Manchester United and Tottenham got over the line in their second legs against Athletic Club and Bodo/Glimt respectively.

Mason Mount's brace - including a stunning long-range effort - helped Ruben Amorim's side seal a 4-1 win on the night over Athletic Club.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro ensure Spurs will leave the Arctic Circle with a 2-0 win to set up a date in Bilbao with The Red Devils.

However, Chelsea will have to wait to find out their opponents in the Conference League final on May 28, with Fiorentina and Real Betis going to extra time after a 2-1 scoreline on the night.

Antony opened the scoring for Betis, but a Robin Gosens brace means we have another 30 minutes of action in Florence.

You certainly cannot fault the visitors for their endeavour tonight, as Gulliksen fires a left-footed strike wide from close range.

Antwi does brilliantly to tee up Acheampong, who blazes his shot over the bar.

Stensson lets fly from distance with a shot that's parried over by Jorgensen.

This came after Kosugi's initial strike was blocked by Gusto.

That was a lovely run and cross from George, who was superbly picked out by James on the left-hand side.
