Leeds 3-0 Norwich result - Premier League side cruise through to Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals with comfortable victory over Championship opposition

Leeds cruised through to the quarter-finals of The Emirates FA Cup at the expense of Norwich City at Elland Road on Sunday evening.

The hosts took control from the first whistle and thought they had taken the lead when Lukas Nmecha poked home into an empty net after Daniel Grimshaw failed to deal with a long ball, but VAR ruled it out owing to the ball striking the arm of Wilfried Gnonto.

The deadlock was broken after the half-hour mark when Sean Longstaff brought down a cross from Gabriel Gudmundsson and volleyed home.

After recording his first assist of the year, Gudmundsson added his first goal two minutes before the break, poking home after Daniel James’ low cross was diverted into his path.

The only time Norwich came close to scoring was when Errol Mundle-Smith got to the by-line and found fellow substitute Anis Slimane at the far post but he could only hit the outside of the goal-frame.

Joel Piroe was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with a dipping shot which came off the crossbar before Nmecha set him up to stroke home a winner five minutes from time.

Leeds will find out who they will meet in the last eight when the draw is made live on TNT Sports 1, prior to the final match of the fifth round between West Ham and Brentford.

A very professional job from the West Yorkshire outfit, who showed no signs of a team worried about their league form.

This is their first FA Cup semi-final in 23 years.

But his effort is a tame one and Perri comfortably saves.

He deserves to be on the scoresheet. He played the ball through to Gnonto who got to the by-line and pulled back to the six-yard box where the ball got stuck under Nmecha's feet and he tried to poke home but missed the target.

Maybe the best Leeds player on the day gets an ovation as he departs the field.

With Norwich stretched looking to get on the scoresheet, Nmecha turned inside his man and perfectly laid the ball for Piroe in the right hand side of the penalty area and he calmly slid the ball back into the far inside side-netting.

There was a period of play around the hour mark when they looked close to getting on the scoresheet but it is hard to see them doing so now.

The ball was flicked around in the six-yard box and Piroe looked set to score before Kovacevic flew out of his goal to push to safety.

Nmecha is played in the inside-right channel by Piroe and fires just inside the near post but Kovacevic pushes away for a corner.

But the linesman put his flag up. They would usually let a move play out when it is fairly close.

A fine dipping effort from 30 yards which Kovacevic maybe just gets a touch onto before it crashes into the bar.

A fine run from Stacey gets to the by-line and somehow the centre squeezes between the goalkeeper and near post and then the other substitute Silmane just hits against the outside of the post.

Stacey, Mundle-Smith and Silmane replace Gibbs, Kvistgaarden and Maghoma.

Perri saves fairly comfortably diving to his right.

He was under pressure but met Maghoma's set piece from the left flank and headed over the bar.

But it is comfortably saved by Perri.

Maghoma flicks a ball through to Gibbs in the area but, from a fairly narrow angle, he shoots wide.

And the second one is punched away by Kovacevic but the keeper, only just on the field is down along with team-mate McConville after they clashed heads.
