AC Milan 2-3 Atalanta result - Visitors hold off the Rossoneri's late charge at San Siro

Atalanta held on for a nervy 3-2 win against floundering AC Milan at San Siro to dent the Rossoneri's UEFA Champions League aspirations.

Ahead of the game both sides were out of form, with Max Allegri's side losing five of their last 10 and Atalanta winless in their last four league games.

The visitors got the first goal early on with just over five minutes played, as Ederson got the ball on the edge of the box and took a good touch before placing a composed finish into the bottom-right corner.

Davide Zappacosta added a second goal in the first half as he linked up with Nikola Krstovic and placed his finish from close range.

Giacomo Raspadori rifled in a third goal with his left foot past Mike Maignan at the beginning of the second half to stun San Siro, and it looked to be game over at that stage.

Milan got a goal back just before stoppage time when Samuele Ricci dinked a nice ball into the box from a free-kick which was met Strahinja Pavlovic at the back post, and his header was perfectly placed into the corner.

The Rossoneri then got a penalty in stoppage time as Christopher Nkunku was tripped by Marten De Roon in the box, and the former Chelsea forward blasted his spot kick into the top-right corner to give Milan a glimmer of hope.

Despite Milan’s spirited comeback and a last-gasp chance for Matteo Gabbia, Atalanta held firm under pressure to secure the three points.

The result means Atalanta remain in seventh position, while AC Milan are still in fourth place, level on points with Roma and two points ahead of Como in the race for Champions League qualification with two games remaining in Serie A.

Pavlovic and Nkunku's late goals gave the Rossoneri a glimmer of hope of a comeback, but it was too little too late for them to get something from the game.

The Rossoneri get a free kick which is played into the box and finds Matteo Gabbia, whose glancing header goes inches wide of the post!

Was that the last chance?

The Frenchman blasts his penalty into the top right corner and runs straight to the ball to get the game going. Is it too late for Milan to make the comeback?

Fullkrug plays a pass to Nkunku who takes a touch past De Roon who trips the French forward and he falls to the ground, with the penalty given.

Milan have one back! Samuele Ricci dinks a nice ball into the box from a free kick which finds Strahinja Pavlovic at the back post, whose header is perfectly placed into the corner.

Surely it's too late to turn this around?

A header is played into the Gerrman striker in the box, who latches onto it and places it past Carnesecchi. However, the linesman's flag is up for offside and the goal is not given.

Fofana drives towards the goal and plays a nice one-two with Fullkrug to be in a fantastic position right in front of goal, but decides against shooting and tries to play a pass which is intercepted by the Atalanta defender.

Fullkrug pins the centre back and plays a smart pass into Nkunku, who fires a shot which rattles the crossbar.

It has not been Milan's night!

The visitors play some good football and find Bellanova in space on the right who puts in a cross on a plate for Krstovic in the box, but he fires his shot well over the bar from close range.

A nice bit of play from the French forward, who shows a lovely bit of skill to skip past the Atalanta defender in the box, but his shot is well saved by Carnesecchi and the ball is cleared away.

Koussonou, who only just came on, is forced off with an injury. He is replaced by Honest Ahanor.

Mario Pasalic also comes on for Charles de Ketelaere.

Allegri makes three changes, with Rafael Leao, Santiago Gimenez and Koni De Winter all coming off for Niclas Füllkrug, Youssouf Fofana and Zachary Athekame.

The goalscorer Davide Zappacosta is replaced by Raoul Bellanova.

Giacomo Raspadori rifles in a third goal! Milan lose the ball in the middle of the park, Atalanta break quickly as a ball is played to Raspadori, who takes a touch before firing in a powerful finish on his left foot which Maignan gets a hand to but he is only able to push it into the top corner.

A disastrous start to the second half for AC Milan!

Giorgio Scalvini comes off with an injury, and is replaced by Odilon Kossounou.

Allegri makes a change at half time, with Christopher Nkunku coming on for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
