Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool result – Amine Adli hits stoppage time winner after Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk pulled Reds back from two down

Amine Adli struck deep into stoppage time as Bournemouth claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory after Liverpool had battled back from two down at Vitality Stadium.

Arne Slot’s Reds dominated the early stages but were undone by two goals in seven minutes as Evanilson and Alex Jimenez took advantage of uncertainty in the visiting rearguard.

Virgil van Dijk had been at fault for his role in Bournemouth’s opener but the Liverpool captain got his side back into it on the stroke of half-time with a header from a corner.

Liverpool continued to lack a cutting edge in the second period but thought they had rescued a point when Dominik Szoboszlai rifled in a free kick that was touched into his path 10 minutes from time.

Evanilson then missed a glorious chance to win it for the hosts before Andoni Iraola and co were sent into delirium when Adli stabbed into the corner from close range after the visitors failed to deal with a long throw-in.

The result sees Bournemouth claim just a second win in their past 14 matches as they rise to 13th spot.

Liverpool, who saw a 13-match unbeaten run come to an end, are just six points ahead of The Cherries in fourth place but could drop significantly if results go against the ailing champions on Sunday.

Next up, Liverpool will bid to secure a top-eight finish at home to Qarabag in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Mersysiders will then host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday night, with Bournemouth visiting Wolves earlier that afternoon.

"What an effort they put in today (Bournemouth)," the former Liverpool and Bournemouth midfielder said on Sky Sports.

"That performance from Liverpool could sum up their season.

"It’s hard to identify them with the side we watched last season (winning the league) with the pace and energy they played with. But the way they defend right now, how passive they are in possession.

"But this Bournemouth team... This wasn’t a low block, this wasn’t them sitting back. This was a team that just wanted it a little bit more, they had a little bit more energy."

Surely there was no advantage and that could have been brought back for a free kick?
