Barcelona came agonisingly close to another famous remontada as Atletico Madrid advanced to their first Copa del Rey final since 2012/2013 by edging through 4-3 on aggregate.

With a 0-4 deficit to overturn, Barca were on the front foot from the first whistle, with Fermin Lopez seeing a vicious effort tipped over the crossbar after just 71 seconds, denying the hosts what would have been a dream start to the match.

Hansi Flick’s side continued to dominate proceedings at Spotify Camp Nou, playing almost exclusively in the final third of the pitch as they looked to mount a comeback.

Barca continued to throw everything at Atletico Madrid, searching desperately for another goal that would take them closer to an historic comeback, and in the 72nd minute, they had a third goal. Joao Cancelo sent in a delightful ball from the right-hand side and Bernal guided it back across goal and into the back of the net to put the comeback within touching distance.

For Barcelona, though, their pursuit would ultimately end in disappointment, with Atletico managing to see out the game, defending resolutely with every player behind the ball in the final stages.
