Birmingham City 0-1 Manchester City result - Visitors win after early Khadija Shaw strike

Birmingham City are top of the league in the WSL2 and had plenty of good form behind them as they welcomed Manchester City.

The problem for the home side was that the visitors are also top of their league - the WSL.

The quality of Man City told relatively quickly, as Khadija Shaw struck in the first half with the only goal of the game.

Birmingham had the odd glimpse of goal, but the WSL leaders were rarely in panic mode, and created a succession of chances as Yui Hasegawa struck the woodwork late on.

There is some concern for City after Shaw left the pitch with what looked to be an ankle injury, which may complicate the rest of their season.

However, their attention will soon turn to the semi-finals, with Chelsea already decided as their opponents.

Shaw, Coombs and Hemp all fail to take advantage of being high up, in and around the box, and they contrive to be crowded out instead of getting a shot away. The momentum drifted away as soon as Shaw failed to properly control a high ball and move the ball swiftly.

A minute later, Coffey finds Fujino with a ball over the top, and Thomas saves well.

The keeper has to rush out about 30 yards from her penalty box to boot away a ball into space.

The teams are back in action.

They're looking for an opening but Birmingham are staying compact.
