ELINA SVITOLINA REACTS TO A MAGNIFICENT WIN OVER COCO GAUFF
"Not bad, not bad, I would say," said the 12th seed when asked to assess her performance.
"Yes, I’m very, very pleased with the tournament so far and of course, (it's) always been my dream to come back here after maternity leave - it was my dream to come back into the top 10 – always been my goal."
OPTA STAT: Svitolina is the second-oldest player in the Open Era to reach her maiden Women’s Singles semi-finals at the Australian Open, younger only than Mirjana Lucic in 2017.
Elina Svitolina completes the upset to reach her first ever Australian Open semi-final.
The 12th seed secures her 10th straight win of the season as she breaks again on her first match point to seal an astonishing victory in just 59 minutes.
The 12th seed will face Arnya Sabalenka in the last four.

Now it’s Gauff’s turn to go after the weaker second delivery as she pummels a forehand down the line off a short ball.
The American looks to up the ante again but brilliant counter punching from the 12th seed sees her strain and zap back the stonking return to force a forehand long.
The Ukrainian earns breathing space at 40-15 with a superb forehand winner up the line and then gets fortunate with a net cord that Coco can’t quite retrieve.

Gauff waits an eternity for a hold of serve and then clocks up two in a row.
This one is rather routine as Elina fails to find her mark on the return and Coco clocks up a most-welcome hold to 15.

There’s a sudden determination in Gauff’s play and it’s dangerous moments for Svitolina as she drops the opening point and concedes ground in the baseline exchanges.
The Ukrainian is smart to target the Coco forehand in a series of lung-busting rallies and gets two errors as her reward.
The 12th seed coughs up one of her own but then lands a very timely ace and hangs tough to clinch a dogged hold to 30.

The Ukrainian does earn one chance with a fabulous forehand winner down the line but fires another return wide.

The Ukrainian lands another excellent first serve but then blinks first with a forehand into the net in an incredible 26-shot rally.
Coco forces a rushed error with a fizzed return to feet but can’t convert the first break point.
The American won’t let go and another superb return forces the forehand error long before Elina coughs up the break back with another strike off that flank that just misses the baseline.
