Holger Rune exclusive: Star aims to 'keep pushing the limits' to 'become more dangerous player' ahead of Australian Open

Holger Rune ended his 2024 season by reaching the final of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London. The 21-year-old has spoken about the area of his game he has been "working a lot on" and how he is "excited for more" heading into the new year. Rune also says he is "super happy" to be back with childhood coach Lars Christensen after several coaching changes.

Holger Rune says he intends to "keep pushing the limits" in 2025 as he revealed the area he plans to target to become a "more dangerous" player.
Rune, 21, had an up-and-down season in 2024, slipping out of the top 10 and ending at No. 13 in the world.
He did, though, finish it on a positive note with semi-final runs in Tokyo, Basel and Paris.
He will be looking to carry that momentum through to the new season and has highlighted a key part of his game to improve.
"I've been working a lot on my court position and that's what I'm going to keep working on, because I've become a more dangerous player that way and [you] automatically just stay there and keep playing," he told Eurosport at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London.
"Just to really keep improving every day is very important. Keep pushing the limits.
"At the end of the season I was very happy about playing two semi-finals in Basel and Paris, so you feel very motivated going out of the season and I had a good off-season with some good vacation and good training so far, and I’m excited for more."
Rune ended his 2025 season by reaching the final of the UTS Grand Final, where he was beaten by Alex de Minaur.
At the tournament, he beat Alexander Bublik and Jan-Lennard Struff in the group stage, and then Ugo Humbert 3-0 in the semi-finals.
"I can't control how good or bad I play, but I can control my effort and I'm going to try to put it at 10 every day," he said.
Rune will head into the new season alongside childhood coach, Lars Christensen.
The 21-year-old has made several coaching changes over the last few years, working with Boris Becker, Severin Luthi and Patrick Mouratoglou.
But he is happy to be back with Christensen, saying: "It's great. We have good communication both on and off the court. We know each other very well, so super happy. I have great people around me and I trust them a lot."
Rune will be starting his 2025 season at the Brisbane International. He made the final of the tournament this season, losing to Grigor Dimitrov.
