There seems to be no stopping Jannik Sinner of late. The Italian's electric form continued in Saturday's semi-final at the Monte Carlo Masters as he saw off Alexander Zverev to reach the final - where Carlos Alcaraz awaits - and matched a record set by the fabled 'Big Three' of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Sinner is now one win from reclaiming the world No. 1 spot.

Jannik Sinner’s blistering recent form continued with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Alexander Zverev as the Italian romped into his first Monte Carlo Masters final.

Fresh off completing the ‘Sunshine Double’ without dropping a set at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, Sinner’s dismantling of the world No. 3 in just 82 minutes took his winning streak at Masters 1000 level to 21 in a row.

”I’m very happy. We came here trying to give myself some feedback [on clay] and now finding myself in the final means a lot to me,” said Sinner.

”Obviously every match, every day is different, so I’m very happy about today’s performance. I felt really solid from the beginning. When you are a break up straightaway, it changes the dynamic of the match, so very happy and let’s see what’s coming in the final.”

His run of consecutive sets won at this level may have come to an end at 37 when he dropped the second to Tomas Machac in the round of 16 in Monaco, but Sinner continues to make history after becoming the fourth man to reach the final at the first three ATP 1000 events of the season after Roger Federer (2006), Rafael Nadal (2011) and Novak Djokovic (2015).

His reward is another battle with rival Carlos Alcaraz, who beat Valentin Vacherot in the last four, and Sinner has the added motivation of knowing he will reclaim the world No. 1 spot from the Spaniard should he win the trophy.

World No. 3 Zverev is currently the best of the rest in men’s tennis but was left facing Groundhog Day as he suffered a third semi-final defeat in his last three outings at the hands of Sinner.

The German failed to pick up a set in any of those contests and got off to the worst possible start in Monte Carlo when he was broken in his opening two service games – including the match opener - to quickly find himself 4-0 down.

Zverev eventually got on the board, only to be broken for a third time while serving to stay in the set as Sinner wrapped up the opener in 34 minutes.

The second set proved more competitive, with the two players trading holds until Sinner struck at the opportune moment, setting up two break points while 5-4 up on Zverev’s serve and taking the first to complete an emphatic display.
