Emotional Daniil Medvedev dedicates first ATP Tour title since 2023 to his daughter after beating Corentin Moutet at Almaty Open

Daniil Medvedev beat Corentin Moutet to win the Almaty Open, his first ATP Tour title since May 2023. The former world No.1 has dropped out of the top 10 after enduring a disappointing campaign, while he had not won a title of any kind since the Italian Open two and a half years ago. Medvedev, now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, has made steady progress over the past month.

Daniil Medvedev beat Corentin Moutet 7-5 4-6 6-3 in the Almaty Open final to claim his first ATP Tour title since May 2023.

Since winning the Italian Open two and a half years ago, Medvedev has lost six finals, including the US Open and Australian Open.

had previously endured a disappointing year, dropping out of the world’s top 10, splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara and receiving a hefty fine for a meltdown after his first round US Open exit.

"I want to thank my family, my beautiful wife, and my two daughters," Medvedev said. "It is the first time I have been at a tournament with my two daughters and wife together, so to get a title is really nice.

"I honour this title to my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her, so this one is for Victoria."

Medvedev, now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, has enjoyed steady progress over the last month, which has culminated with victory in Kazakhstan.

He came from a break down to win four of the final five games and take the first set against Moutet.

Moutet, who was bidding for his first career ATP Tour title, won the second set to force a decider after an error-strewn spell from Medvedev.

The Frenchman went on to save four early break points in the third before Medvedev broke to serve for the match.

The 29-year-old ultimately wrapped up the victory in two hours and 38 minutes.

Medvedev continued: "It is great. I was not super happy with how I played in some moments of the match, but to win feels amazing. In the most important points, I played well.

"The last game was incredible and I am happy to win the title. It continues my funny story of 21 titles in 21 different cities."
