The semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters were finalised on Thursday with defending champion Judd Trump losing 6-4 to Mark Selby, who will play Ali Carter in the last four after edging Xiao Guodong 6-5. Ronnie O'Sullivan lost 6-3 to Kyren Wilson while world champion Zhao Xintong thumped Ding Junhui 6-1 in the evening action in China. Watch and stream all the action live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Has been another fabulous day of elite snooker, and we now know our semi-finalists in the race for the £210,000 first prize with former Shanghai Masters champions Mark Selby and Ali Carter meeting over the best-of-19 frames on Friday before the past two world champions Zhao Xintong and Kyren Wilson do battle on Saturday. Breaks of 58, 72, 75, 111, 91, 83 and 109 from Kyren, who was the heavier scorer by some margin and ended up a convincing winner. Ronnie battled hard to keep pace, but a couple of breaks over 50 is never going to get the job done in this company. And on these tables too.

Wilson picking up the scraps against an opponent who hasn't made a break over 60 yet. Which will not get the job done at this level of the sport.

Looks like Wilson could be moving two up with a possible three to play. Blue disappears, and he is nicely on the next red too. Ominous signs for O'Sullivan, who has seen this all before in his lengthy career.

Another fine contribution from Kyren to move 4-3 clear. Could be another century on the cards too. O'Sullivan paying a heavy price for any errors in the safety department.

118 from Zhao is his third century of the match. He eases into the last four in some style. Bringing his Crucible form back to Shanghai.

Kyren missing reds trying to escape off one cushion. Ronnie putting him back in. And he escapes at second time of asking.

A little cameo run of 20 to finalise matters. Remains difficult to predict a winner from this match, but we are approaching key moments in momentum swing.

47 knock from Ronnie. Rapid effort, and Kyren will require a snooker with only 67 left on deck. O'Sullivan just has to be careful here. And he buries the red he needs to put matters to bed. All level again then at 3-3.

Not what Kyren was looking for as he ends up suffering a miscue to stick Ronnie plum in. O'Sullivan gets the white ball cleaned before he prepares to clean up. Would fancy him to go close to levelling us up again at 3-3.

Looks like Zhao is heading for the last four as the world champion moves 5-1 up on Ding.

Bad error by Wilson after Ronnie failed to drain a long red. Kyren missing from close range, and Ronnie slams in a red to right centre. Important to score a few, but just 22 before he is forced to run safe. White sticking to the reds off black.

Making this all look so incredibly easy. Ronnie can only sit and suck it up. A supreme knock of 111. Still plenty of room left to mount the recovery, but Kyren leads by the odd frame in five.

Like shelling peas out there at moment for Wilson. Could be three figures to go with 58, 72 and 75 in the previous three frames. Nothing wrong with his scoring levels.

Kyren escaping from the snooker on red before Ronnie sticks up the final red to right middle and the concession comes. It is 2-2 in the race to six. An absorbing match so far. Nothing between them.

Kyren not dwelling on the previous frame. This has been a timely response by the world No. 2. Looks like they are heading for the break at 2-2 unless there is some more late drama. In goes a red down table to yellow pocket before black is dropped in. 75 break this time, but Ronnie returns to the table. Again looking for snookers.

Kyren up to 35, but not sure he is on a red to right centre here. Goes for a red to the green pocket instead. What a terrific recovery pot to continue the break. Looks positive to level up at 2-2.

Kyren back at the baize and looking to build a lead after being walloped by that stinging O'Sullivan counter punch in the previous frame.

That is a quite astonishing steal from Ronnie. A huge roar from the crowd in Shanghai as he powers in brown, blue and lands perfectly on pink. In go pink and black. It is O'Sullivan who leads 2-1. Phew! That was big.

Ronnie handed chance to piece together some points in his quest to chase down the two snookers. Quickly knocks in 30 before laying snooker behind black on final red. Wilson hits brown instead of red and leaves a free ball. Ronnie then drops in green as a red to left centre. Stunning shot and in goes blue. Suddenly O'Sullivan can win the frame. What a steal this would be.

Wilson taking these balls with some relish. Very sharp potting skills on display here. Ronnie playing only one shot, but looks like it will cost him the third frame. 72 from Kyren. Ronnie requiring two snookers. But he will play on for a bit at least.

Mistakes under these conditions are being heavily punished. Made for big scoring visits. This looks like another one of these moments for Kyren, who is warming to the occasion.

Loose break-off shot by Ronnie at the outset of the third frame. Red to left middle disappears, and suddenly Kyren is presented with chance to again build up a head of steam.

The home favourites not hanging about in the other quarter-final. 134 and 53 from Zhao to move 2-0 ahead, but Ding has responded with 84 of his own to stay in touch.

Superb long cut from Wilson to win the frame on the black. O'Sullivan with a loose safety effort nudging black towards the yellow bag, and Kyren makes sure. 1-1 in the race to six.

Down to the final red. O'Sullivan opting to pot brown instead of blue. So 27 between the players heading for the colours. Ronnie chasing a re-spotted black in this frame. Double on pink is a beauty and he also gets position on black. The crowd loving that. We will have a re-spotted black. 56 break from O'Sullivan, who loses the toss and is put in.

That missed brown by Ronnie looking and more and more like it is going to cost him the second frame. Kyren into the pack of reds off black with five reds left up. Kyren looking for a red and a colour to seal deal, but he isn't on a red. Fine cutback red, but not great on a colour. Goes for pink, but nothing doing. Well out. So 58 is not enough as Ronnie clips in a red to right centre. Brilliant pot. Chance to launch the counter.

So far so good from Wilson on his way to 22. A nice controlled pot on blue heading into pack. Coming together very nicely here in this break. Looks like very favourable scoring conditions, it must be said.

Ronnie opts to press with a tough brown to right centre. Doesn't drop, and Kyren is handed chance to make his presence felt in the second frame.

The winner of this match will face Ding or world champion Zhao, who has opened with a break of 134 on the other main table. Also on a run of 42 in the second frame.

In goes the final red to prevent Kyren from playing for snookers. Not a glorious start to the match, but a winning one for Ronnie. Which he will take. A 54 knock and he is 1-0 ahead.

Kyren with three good scoring chances. Didn't take any of them, and this looks like O'Sullivan is set to punish. Should be 1-0 to the seven-time world champion.

All a bit stop-start so far as Kyren sees another white drop down the yellow bag. Ronnie snicks in black to left middle seconds later to move a couple of points ahead. This looks like a half decent chance to build a lead.

Lovely long red by Kyren. Really got hold of that one. And also holds for green in baulk. Looking to make some progress at this visit. But a thin cut on a black fails to drop. Wilson then sees a white in, but a safety error by O'Sullivan sticks up a red to go in off black he missed. Careless. No real position for Kyren. So safety it is.

Not much happening on the scoring front, but some nice safety shots being produced by both men. Ronnie with a fine escape at the second attempt from a snooker to hit red and leave the white safe.

Safety blunder by Kyren gives Ronnie his first chance of the day. Time to go to work then from close range. Or that is the plan here at least. Nice thin cut on a red, but blue to green bag is nowhere near the pocket. Al settling down period in the first. O'Sullivan 6-4 clear on the career head-to-heads. Chance for Kyren to pot a few.

And it is Rocket Ronnie who gets the action going in the first frame of the day. A red pops its head out, and Kyren gives it the full treatment by slamming in the long red. Just a green added though. So nothing to write home about.

Mark plays a terrific double to send down a red into the right middle, but is so unfortunate as the cue ball rolls right up against the black. He goes for a difficult pink but misses, and Trump steps in to clear up and close the gap to one.

Marks finds an opening after an error from Judd and he has a real chance of getting back into the frame. He has a lot to do to win it from here.

Frustration for Trump, who puts together a lovely run of 66 but plays a poor positional shot off the black. He only needed a red and a colour and the frame was his, but he's been forced into a safety and Mark will be sniffing at a steal.

Judd had trouble getting out of a snooker from the top cushion, but manages to roll the ball into the reds at the second time of asking.

Judd looks to go long with a red into the top right pocket but it wriggles in the jaws, having looked destined to drop in. Mark clears it up and is scoring well at the moment, so this could be a problem for the defending champion.
But just like that, Mark has run out of room. He plays a safety, rolling the cue ball into baulk.

A 137 total clearance means Mark is halfway to a place in the last four. A 898th career century for The Jester from Leicester!

After a short delay following conversations with the referee about the position of the cue ball, he misses again with a similar attempt. But third time's a charm as he finally makes contact.

The first points of this frame come courtesy of a foul, as Judd snookers Mark, who tries to swerve around the yellow in baulk to meet a red right up against the bottom cushion but just misses. He will go again, but is deep in thought about how he will go about it.

What a pot! Judd was forced to go for a long red with the cue ball right up against the top cushion, and he buries it! He follows up with a fantastic green, sends down another brilliant red and now he can make something of this.

A cautious start to the fourth frame. Judd fires in a brilliant long red into the bottom right but the screw on the cue ball sees it roll into the middle left. Unfortunate!

A brilliant long red from Judd to the bottom right as he puts himself in a position to make a decent break, but he misses an easy brown! He was thinking ahead, and now he has handed the chance to Mark who should really put this third frame to bed.

Mark starts the third frame well with a tidy little break and opts not to go into the reds off the black. He still has two reds available, one up the table in baulk. He continues to delay the chance to go into the pack and misses that top red.
Trump returns to the table to knock it in with the rest, but it's a poor positional shot as he finds the cue ball wedged up against the right cushion and Mark will come back to the table.

Mark's run breaks down at 24 with a tricky miss to the right middle and Judd takes his chance with his fourth century of the week.
He puts together a quick frame-winning break of 104 and we're level after two frames. And that is the first frame Mark has lost this week, following his 6-0 win over Shaun Murphy in the first round.

Mark finds room to send a red to the bottom left and then works with the angles well to squeeze in a tight black, and he's in again!

Judd misses a fairly easy red to the bottom left, which you'd expect him to sink, and now the momentum is with Mark, who has the pack nicely spread and is knocking in balls at will. This should be the frame.

A good start for Mark, who fires a long red into the bottom right pocket but is without a colour, so Judd swiftly returns to the table.
He sends down a long red into the same pocket, follows with the yellow and has the chance for a decent break.
