John Higgins revels in the 'best shot' he's ever played during his Halo World Championship quarter-final victory over Neil Robertson

John Higgins booked his Halo World Championship semi-final spot with a 13-10 victory over Neil Robertson on Wednesday evening.

Higgins performed superbly in their titanic battle at the Crucible, coming from 10-9 down to progress to the last four.

However, it was a shot when the Scot was up 11 frames to 10 that will live long in the memory of the 50-year-old.

At 58-32 down in the frame, Higgins sunk the yellow in the top right corner to present him with a chance to clear up and storm into a 12-10 lead in the race to 13 frames and a place in the final four.

And Higgins has gone as far as to say it was the "best shot" he's ever played as he seeks to land a fifth World Championship title.

Discussing the shot on TNT Sports, Higgins said: "It’s the best shot I’ve ever played. Best shot, yeah, without a doubt."

Higgins went on to explain that the context of the shot and the match itself stands out, continuing: "The pockets are playing pretty tight and the way I’ve just nipped in there and back out for the green.

"Especially in the context of the match, it’s given me that chance to clear up to make it three of 10.

"My best shot ever."

Reanne Evans was full of praise for Higgins' stunner ahead of his semi-final with Shaun Murphy.

"This is the shot of the tournament," she said on TNT Sports. "He doesn't like the rest, it's such a difficult shot, and he's played it to perfection."

It wasn't the only shot in the frame that drew widespread praise - and claims of being the best of the tournament - as Robertson pulled off an unorthodox effort to pot a red...

With the reds grouped together on the bottom cushion, Robertson noted the yellow hovering near the right middle pocket.

And as the Australian considered his options, commentator Joe Johnson picked up on Robertson's thought process, stating on TNT Sports: "Have you seen the shot that he is contemplating here, red in off the yellow?"

Robertson pulled off the impressive shot to sink the red, which delighted those in attendance at the Crucible.

"What a shot, what a marvellous shot to spot. Probably the shot of the tournament. An unbelievable shot," Johnson enthused.

Alongside Johnson on TNT Sports commentary, Phil Yates added: "So, so clever, and it was all about, as Joe said, spotting it."

Upon viewing a replay of the effort, Johnson stated: "It is worth another look. This was very special."

The shot wasn't enough for Robertson to come back into the tie before he crashed out of the World Championship at the quarter-final stage.

The 44-year-old has now failed to feature in a semi-final in Sheffield since defeat to Mark Selby in 2014.

Higgins, meanwhile, set up a semi-final meeting with Murphy, and the winner of their clash will take on either Mark Allen or Wu Yize in the final.
