The 19-year-old, making his debut at the Crucible, was handed the daunting task of facing the 2024 world champion in his first ever meeting in Sheffield.
Yet Moody took comfortable leads, holding a 6-2 and then a 7-3 lead over Wilson, which looked set to see him become the youngest winner of a match at the World Championships since Ronnie O’Sullivan 31 years ago.
But Wilson showed his experience after the mid-session interval, winning seven consecutive frames to take the match in a thrilling comeback, celebrating with a massive punch in the air.
Trump, who himself eased past Gary Wilson with a 10-5 win, sympathised with Moody and said he wanted to offer him advice.
He said on TNT Sports: ”It was nice this year because I think some of the younger talent that has come through has been from China recently, and it was nice that they both got through together, Stan and Liam [Pullen].
”I think they are amazing talents, I have not seen as much of Liam as I have of Stan, but he looks like he works extremely hard.

”Obviously Stan, it was there for the taking, just a little bit naive even. I was there screaming at the TV. ‘Just relax, slow it down!'
”Because a lot of the times, he would have a pressure shot and he would get quicker, whereas as you get older, you know to take a step back.
”But he is an amazing talent, he will be back here so many times, but it is hard to watch for me because even though I don’t know him very well, you just want to get in his corner and say, 'Look just slow down a little bit.’”
While Moody was defeated on debut, there were clear signs that he can become a potential future champion.
The teenager had to qualify to reach the Crucible and showed the grit he possesses when discharging himself from hospital with tonsillitis to win his final qualifying clash.
And Trump believes Moody has all that it takes and, with experience, he and Pullen can go to the very top.

Trump added: ”He definitely has it. It is just experience for him. I was in exactly the same position. You get excited, you get quicker until you don’t really know what is going on.
”I think I have seen him [arrive] quite early for the evening session as well. He was over here at 5:30. If I was in his corner, I would be telling him to get here for 6:30, relax, go to sleep, chill out.
”I feel like you lose so much energy, you’re just kind of burning yourself out a little bit and he just looked a little bit flat at the end.
”I want the people from the UK to do well because snooker has been taken over, it is nice to finally have these talents coming through and Stan and Liam.
”No doubt they are the future of the game and just as you get older, you are more of a father figure, you just want to help them.”
