Team GB clinched gold in the mixed team skeleton, with men’s individual Olympic champion Matt Weston winning a second title, alongside Tabitha Stoecker.

Weston stormed to men’s skeleton gold on Day 7 and just two days later produced another breathtaking performance to take victory.

The Great Britain duo beat Susanne Kreher and Axel Jungk into silver by one tenth of a second, while the fellow German pairings of Jacqueline Pfeifer and Christopher Grotheer finished in bronze.

New for the Olympic Games the mixed team skeleton saw Stoecker set the benchmark and finish within three tenths of her rivals, before Weston oveturned the deficit to secure gold.

The fellow British pair of Freya Tarbit and Marcus Wyatt finished fourth.

Olympics live: Weston 'I knew what I needed to do'

Matt Weston said he knew what was necessary as he overturned a three tenths deficit to secure gold with Tabitha Stoecker in the mixed pairs skeleton.

He said: "Luckily I felt like I kind of knew what I needed to do.

"At the individual event, I took a load of confidence from that and I just had to almost in my head be boring and get the job done. We've done it again."

Olympics live: Wyatt - ‘I felt every emotion’

Great Britain athletes Freya Tarbit and Marcus Wyatt said that they felt ‘every emotion’ as they finished fourth, but watched team-mates Tabitha Stoecker and Matt Weston clinch gold.

Wyatt said: "I felt every emotion, it was a blur.

"It's super important to come to the games and do well. Even though in the last couple of days, it hasn't quite been our day.

"The future looks great, and this should secure the future for the medals in the next four, eight, 12 years and beyond."

Tarbit added: "I'm really proud of that run. I left it all out there on the track. I did everything I could."

Matt Weston leads Great Britain to gold in the mixed skeleton event.

Tabitha Stoecker loses three tenths to the German leaders in the middle and bottom sections of the course.

Olympic champion Matt Weston has the quickest reaction time of the competition, but needs a perfect run. Weston overturns the deficit in the top section to lead by one tenth.

He continues his pace to clinch gold by 0.17 seconds and a golden time of 1:59.36.

Germany are currently first and second with just Great Britain to come.

After watching their German counterparts go ahead the second German pair take to the ice.

Great Britain are currently in third so are certain of at least a bronze medal.

Jacqueline Pfeifer keeps the second German pairing in the medal fight by finish just six hundreds slower than her counterparts.

Christopher Grotheer has a slower reaction time, but remains in the medal fight.

Grotheer has over a tenth to find on his German competitors in the final section. He finishes one hundredth behind the first German pairing.

With two pairings to come Germany go quickest and secure at least a bronze.

Susanne Kreher has the difficult task of chasing the blistering time of Tarbit. The individual silver medallist is a tenth slower than the British athlete.

Multi-time world champion Axel Jungk is a commanding presence and the second German competitor of this pair. Jungk has an incredible reaction time and reduces Britain’s advantage.

However, he has to padel hard at the chicane. Jungk snatches the lead from the British pairing by 0.12 of a second in a new record time of 1:59.53.

Great Britain lead with three teams to come!

Freya Tarbit has an incredible run for Great Britain and is the quickest female athlete by three tenths of a second.

She virtually hands over to Marcus Wyatt who needs to hold onto this advantage from the blistering Chinese male slider.

Wyatt’s reaction time is good enough to increase their advantage to four tenths. However, a tap on an early wall cuts his speed slightly.

The British athlete loses time but finishes 0.28 seconds ahead of China and the leading time of 1:59.65.

A disaster for Austrian athlete Janine Flock who is the quickest female athlete by one tenth of a second. However, she is punished with a jump start penalty and the Olympic gold medallist from the women’s skeleton sees her medal hopes dashed.

Samuel Maier has an impossible task as he faces a deficit of over a second to recoup. Maier has a good run but their combined time is 1.08 seconds behind and only good enough for fifth at the moment.

A close battle develops as China see their advantage cut to 11 hundreds of a second at the finish. China are the first team to break the two-minute mark in 1:59.93.

Alessandra Fumagalli carries the hopes of Italy in this event and her lightening quick reaction sets the tone for her run. Despite losing some time she finishes the event strongly and is narrowly ahead at the half-way point.

Amedeo Bagnis has the quickest run along the track of 77.7 miles per hour as he edges the time of America and knocks three tenths off their time. A new fastest mark of 2:00.04!

It’s a bruising run for Sujung Hong who took some heavy knocks on the top section of the course and lost almost a second to the medal teams.

Seunggi Jung grabs some time back on the lower section but Korea are outside the medals 1.06 seconds behind leaders America.

The current world champions in this discipline take to the ice.

Mystique Ro built up considerable speed before a big skid and tap off the wall cost her. However, she finishes 0.19 faster than her Chinese competitor.

Austin Florian gets a blistering start from the blocks and maintains an advantage of five tenths. He loses some speed on the bottom section and finishes with a lead of 0.27 and a new fastest combined time of 2:00.39.

The reaction start of Valentina Margaglio is under review. The Italian athlete uses every inch of the banking and is four hundredths of a second behind. However, she also receives a half-a-second penalty for her infringement at the start.

Mattia Gaspari has almost a second to make up and loses further time to the Chinese pair who have just set a new track record. The first of two Italian teams are down in fifth.

Yuxin Liang was taking part in her first reaction start and coped admirably to match the time of leader Curtis and finishes her first leg just three hundredths of a second behind.

An explosive start from youngster Wenhao Chen puts China into the lead by four tenths into the middle section. The gap grows out to 0.77 and sets a new team track record of 2:00.66.

There are 10 teams remaining.

Chants of ‘USA, USA’ from the stands and a punch in the air from Kelly Curtis. The 37-year-old mother is the fastest of the female by two tenths of a second.

Daniel Barefoot has the task of holding onto their first leg advantage. Barefoot loses time further down the course but holds on to finish 0.15 seconds quicker than Denmark in 2:01.43.

Nanna Johansen struggled to find enough speed on her run and is five tenths down on the Latvian pairing.

She hands over the virtual baton to brother Rasmus Vestergaard Johansen whose reaction time and first sector is the quickest yet.

Johansen built blistering speed down the track to take the lead by eight hundredths of a second. The new leaders are Denmark in 2:01.58.

Olympic live: Brusic struggles as Canada go slower

Jane Channell is completing is possibly her last Olympic Games and suffers several small errors resulting in her feet coming out. Canada lead by one tenth at the end of Channell’s effort.

Youngster Brusic is pumped at the top of the track but his reaction time is slower than Latvia’s. The Canadian male then takes a few taps with his feet and is forced really high into the banking. Canada’s combined time is 0.98 slower than leaders Latvia.

Andzane and Indriksons get the competition underway. Andzane completed her run before her team-mate got five red lights and then green to continue the cumulative time. The pairing complete two clean runs and stop the clock in 2:01.66

The mixed skeleton will make its Olympic Games debut tonight in Milan Cortina.

One woman and one man from the same country will partner. They will race one after each other, with a reaction start element and penalties for starting too early.

The combined time of both athlete's runs will make their overall finishing time.
