Marc Marquez conceded his 100th MotoGP victory came at a cost on Sunday after he made a winning return at Grand Prix Hungary.

The Ducati Lenovo rider won his first race since his triumph at San Marino last year, with his season curtailed back in October 2025 after a collision with Marco Bezzecchi resulted in a shoulder injury.

Last month he had to undergo surgery on the shoulder once more to fix a broken screw in the joint, and downplayed his chances for a comeback in the title race, with Aprilia duo Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin leading the way.

However, a first-corner crash eliminated the pair on Sunday, and also prevented third-placed rider Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46) from scoring points.

Marquez battled fiercely with KTM rider Pedro Acosta, with the younger Spaniard ultimately pushed into second spot.

After completing a weekend double, Marc moved 72 points behind Bezzecchi, who tops the standings with 180.

Speaking to TNT Sports after his win, he was delighted with the win but hinted it had taken something out of him as he looks for full fitness.

He said: ”I’m super happy, it was an expensive win. After last year, we’ve changed everything, but the sport is like this, from one day to another, everything can change.

”I already learned that in 2020, again last year, so we came back, and we worked hard, had some difficulties in the first part of the season.

”I knew that here was a big chance to win. The feeling on Friday wasn't perfect, but on Saturday we took a step.

”I want to say thanks to the people that believe in me, the doctors, the physios, a lot of hours at home working. The price was expensive, but I'm happy to have another comeback.”

Tardozzi praises 'incredible race' from Marquez

Ducati Lenovo boss David Tardozzi praised his rider’s efforts, but warned that the Aprilias would come back strong in a fortnight at Grand Prix Czechia in Brno.

He said: ”The opponents are very strong, leading the championship with two riders who are very strong. Today, they have been very unlucky.

”So we are considering today an incredible race from Marc, but we know they weren't there, and they had the possibility to be on the podium.

”We still have our feet on the ground. We still have 15, 16 races to go. It's still long. The main thing, having Marc back 100%, is not yet done. We’ll see if it suits Bezzecchi, Martin and Pedro.

”Today we’ve been really lucky.”
