Who plays who in the quarter-finals?

It is time to start plotting even further ahead and look at the potential match-ups in the quarter-finals.

France are many people's favourite to go all the way and win the tournament. Didier Deschamps' side got past South American surprise-packages Paraguay in the last 16, and Les Bleus will meet Morocco on Thursday, July 9, after their win over co-hosts Canada.

Spain knocked out Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal to set up a tie with Belgium on July 10.

On the right side of the draw, England will meet Erling Haaland's Norway in the quarter-finals on July 11 following the latter's win over Brazil.

England's game against Mexico turned out to be a five-goal thriller, with Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane firing them through.

Argentina survived huge scares to beat minnows Cabo Verde in the last 32 and Egypt in the next round, and they can now look forward to a last-eight meeting with Switzerland, who beat Colombia on penalties.

Who could England play in the final?

If England do make it to the final, they could meet one of several big-hitters from the other half of the draw.

Most likely, it would be a showdown with France or Spain in New York for the chance to end 60 years of hurt.
