Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi explains how he has moved on from failed Liverpool transfer over the summer transfer window

Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi was expected to make a Premier League switch to champions Liverpool in the summer, but the planned move fell through at the final hurdle. Marc Guehi said that "the sun goes up, the sun goes down" when asked about his failed move to Liverpool during the summer.

The England defender, 25, looked to be heading to Anfield on the final day of the transfer window, but the move collapsed in the late hours with Crystal Palace reportedly unable to find a replacement in time.

There have been reports that Guehi felt angry with Palace over the ordeal, but nevertheless, the club captain has seamlessly continued life on the pitch with the FA Cup holders, helping The Eagles stretch their unbeaten run - which began last season - to 18 matches.

They can extend that run when they face Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - as they continue a historic European campaign following their demotion from the UEFA Europa League.

Palace saw off Norwegian side Fredrikstad in a Conference League play-off tie in August.

"The sun goes up, the sun goes down, life goes on," Guehi told TNT Sports.

"That's my mindset, and if you adopt that mindset in most things, you just get on with life and move on. Fortunately for me, I'm at a football club that has helped me and given me so much, so it does make it that much easier."

Despite the disappointment of it all for the England international, Guehi revealed what has made life easier since his potential move to the champions fell through.

"Having my family there the whole time, friends, people who have always been there for me, and then the football club," Guehi said. "People that you come into work with every single day, staff, team-mates, [are] always there.

"So when they're joking and laughing and smiling, it just makes it easy to be honest. It's been really good in that sense."

Keeping Guehi 'significant' - Glasner

One person who did not want to lose Guehi was head coach Oliver Glasner, who reportedly threatened to walk away should the centre-back have been sold.

After losing star man Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, 2021/22 Europa League winner Glasner was determined to keep hold of his rock at the back, and he is glad that Palace managed to do so.

"It was very significant," he told TNT Sports. "He's our captain, in the defence he's the most experienced Premier League player with, I think, 150 [138] Premier League games and still a young player, Marc, 24, 25 years of age. That's why it was very important for us.

"You can see it, we lost Eberechi Eze who was a big player that scored so many important goals for us, but we lost just one of the 15, 16 players who play the most minutes. All of the others, we're now together for over a year.

"The players know what to do on the pitch, know each other, they know the strengths and the weaknesses, they know how the players are moving and this helps. That's why I think the start was easier compared to last season."

Palace are among the bookies' favourites to follow in Chelsea's footsteps and win the Conference League this season.

They will be boosted by a strong start to the Premier League, where they sit behind Liverpool and Arsenal in third after the opening six games.

They are the only team that remain unbeaten, following wins over Aston Villa, West Ham United and Liverpool, while drawing with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland.
