Mateta delivered the decisive moment of the match just five minutes into the second half when he pounced after Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla could only parry Wharton's shot from distance.

Palace held on to secure their third trophy in 12 months, following their FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.
