Mateta delivered the decisive moment of the match just five minutes into the second half when he pounced after Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla could only parry Wharton's shot from distance.
Palace held on to secure their third trophy in 12 months, following their FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.

Some routine saves but largely untroubled otherwise.

Solid in defence and dealt with most of Rayo’s threats on his side.

Maxence Lacroix - 8
Calm and assured to keep things tight at the back, especially as Rayo pressed for the equaliser.
Jaydee Canvot - 7
Tested with one or two runs but was able to handle most of what was thrown at him.
Daniel Munoz - 8
His usual dynamic, marauding self on the right. Delivery could have been better at times, but always a danger.
Adam Wharton - 9
Thomas Tuchel, are you watching? Typically impressive on the ball and always looked to make things happen. His effort led to the opening goal.
Daichi Kamada - 7
Lively and looked to move the ball forward. Just not always on the same wavelength as his team-mates.
Tyrick Mitchell - 7
Got forward to help attacks. Should have opened the scoring but mostly sound defensively late on.
Ismaila Sarr - 6
Didn’t affect the game as he might have liked.

Busy and rewarded with arguably the easiest and most important goal of his Palace career.

Palace’s brightest spark in the first half especially. Final ball just lacking. Unlucky not to score with a stunning second-half free-kick
Subs
Evann Guessand - 6
Jorgen Strand Larsen - 6
