Nottingham Forest want British record for Elliot Anderson as Manchester City have bid rejected - Paper Round

City submitted a verbal proposal, according to reports, though Forest are holding firm for a fee that surpasses the British transfer record.

The Athletic reports: ”Manchester City have made a verbal offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson worth more than £100m. 

”The bid was worth £106 million (€122m, $142m) up front with potential add-ons taking it in excess of £120m (€139m, $160m). 

”To consider a sale of the England international Forest want the fixed fee to eclipse the £125m British record Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. 

”The Athletic previously reported that City had an opening bid for the 23-year-old rejected earlier this month. Manchester United’s admiration for Anderson is well documented but they are not in contention at the current financial levels.”

Arsenal's hopes of landing Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez have been hit with a reality check after the Spanish side knocked back a lucrative cross-town bid from Real Madrid. 

The Sun explains: ”Alvarez, 26, is one of a host of attacking talents Arsenal are tracking this summer, but seeing Atletico Madrid knock back their neighbour’s £130m bid for the superstar will have been an eye-opener for the Gunners. 

”Arsenal would now have to eclipse the Premier League transfer record that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer if they are to sign Alvarez. 

”Of course, politics are at play in Real Madrid’s punt for Alvarez, given that president Florentino Perez had promised a bid of that size for a new ‘Galactico’ during his election campaign. And it is no surprise that Mourinho, who is expected to be officially announced as Real Madrid boss this week, was happy to have another big name attached to his own. 

"Atletico have already rebuffed approaches from both Real Madrid and Barcelona for Alvarez this summer, pointing to the Argentine’s £431 million release clause as the only way to get him out of the Metropolitano.”

Barcelona have decided against triggering their £26 million permanent purchase option for last season's loanee Marcus Rashford. 

The 28-year-old winger has cut formal ties with the La Liga side online and is preparing for a Manchester United return following his World Cup campaign with England.

The Daily Star reports: ”Barcelona are reportedly set to pass on their £26 million option to permanently sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer. The England star has already scrubbed any reference to the Catalan side from his Instagram bio. 

”Rashford, 28, is now poised to return to United following this summer's World Cup, unless a transfer can be arranged with another club in the interim. The option to sign him is believed to expire on Monday, two days prior to England's opening match against Group L rivals Croatia.

”Marca reports that ties between Rashford and Barcelona have been severed, with the club bidding farewell to last season's loanee as he won't be returning next term.”
