Manchester United have approached Sporting CP "through intermediaries" for Ruben Amorim's former striker, Victor Gyokeres, according to Sky Sports. The Sweden international is one of the most highly-coveted talents in Europe following a season which saw him net 54 goals in 52 matches, and could return to the Premier League just four years after Brighton sold the striker to Coventry for £1 million.

Manchester United have made an "initial approach" to Sporting CP for striker Victor Gyokeres, according to a report.
Sky Sports News claim there has been contact between intermediaries over a potential deal which could see the striker - who scored 54 goals in the 2024/25 campaign - return under Ruben Amorim and back to the Premier League.
Gyokeres' goal record since moving to the Portuguese club - 97 goals in 102 matches - sets him among Europe's most prolific strikers. Amorim oversaw the striker's initial development after he joined Sporting for a reported £20m fee from Coventry City in 2023, before the coach moved to Old Trafford in November last year.
The report claims Gyokeres and Sporting have a "gentleman's agreement" which could see the forward leave pending offers of £58 million or more. He is said to have a release clause worth £84m in his contract.
United have moved quickly to start their summer transfer business following their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season. They signed highly-coveted Wolves forward Matheus Cunha in a deal believed to be worth more than £60m.
Reports suggest the club have also been pursuing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, as Amorim's side look to rectify the goalscoring issues which saw them record the fifth-lowest goal tally in the top-flight last season (44 in 38 matches).

Gyokeres has garnered high praise during his two-year spell at Sporting. He scored a hat-trick as Amorim's side beat Manchester City 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League last year, in the Portuguese coach's penultimate game in charge ahead of his move to United.
Helping his side to the Primeira Liga title, Gyokeres scored 39 goals in 33 league matches during the 2024/25 season, while also recording six goals in eight Champions League matches, despite his side's early exit.

Gyokeres' prolific record has marked a significant rise just four years on from his Brighton & Hove Albion exit, the South Coast club selling the striker to Coventry City for just £1m in the summer of 2021 after loan spells in the Championship.
The 27-year-old went on to score 43 goals in 116 games for Coventry, and saw his side beaten by Luton on penalties in the Championship play-off final before sealing his exit to Portugal.
