Gundogan close to MAN City switch
A year after leaving Manchester City, Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan could return to the Etihad Stadium.
His current club are willing to let him go, and Pep Guardiola is ready to add a central midfielder to his squad.
The Sun writes: “The Germany star could be edging closer to a surprise return to former club Manchester City.Â
“Barcelona have told Gundogan he is free to listen to offers to leave this summer.
“The midfielder only departed the Premier League champions to sign for the Catalan club on a free transfer last summer.
“Despite being under contract until 2026, Gundogan has been told Barca will not stand in his way if he finds a suitable move.
“Guardiola has admitted to being open to the prospect of acquiring a central midfielder to help alleviate the burden on Rodri.”
Toney offered big money Saudi MOVE
Brentford striker Ivan Toney could make ÂŁ300,000 a week if he moves to the Saudi Pro League.
The 28-year-old England international could command a transfer fee of ÂŁ50 million, The Mirror states.
The paper writes: “Ivan Toney is being offered a once in a lifetime opportunity in Saudi Arabia.
“‌And the mega money will not only change Toney’s life off the pitch but also his career on the pitch.Â
“Brentford striker Toney, 27 [sic], looks set to swap the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ahli closing in on a game-changing £50m transfer.
“Toney is set to be offered in excess of £300,000-a-week which will secure his and his family’s future for life.”
Liverpool edge nearer Mamardashvili DEAL
Liverpool are planning to bring in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for the 2025/26 season.
They are looking to sign the player now, but allow him to remain in Spain for another season.
The Athletic notes: “Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
“The Athletic reported last week that the Merseyside club were exploring a deal for the 23-year-old, who impressed for Georgia during their European Championship campaign.
“A fee in the region of €40 million (£34m) has been discussed between the two clubs with Mamardashvili expected to remain at Valencia for the 2024-25 campaign as part of the deal, before officially joining Liverpool next summer.
“Liverpool’s position has always been that they want Mamardashvili to arrive in 2025, with Alisson’s status as first-choice goalkeeper not under threat.
“The 31-year-old Brazilian is under contract until 2027 and has been capably backed up by Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher for the past few seasons.”
West Ham in talks for Soler
The Evening Standard reports that West Ham are hoping to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.
The Premier League side would take the Spaniard on loan for a season before making the deal permanent next year.
The paper explains: “West Ham remain in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to sign Carlos Soler ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
“The Hammers have already bolstered their squad with eight new first-team signings this summer but just one of those – Guido Rodriguez – has come in midfield and Julen Lopetegui is keen to add to his options following Saturday's opening defeat to Aston Villa.
“Soler has been capped 14 times by Spain, but made only a dozen league starts for PSG last term and was an unused substitute in their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on Friday.
“It is expected that any deal to take the 27-year-old to the London Stadium would be an initial loan, to become permanent next summer.”
