Massimiliano Allegri returns as AC Milan head coach after Serie A club sack Sergio Conceicao after only six months in charge

Sergio Conceicao has been sacked as head coach by AC Milan after just six months in charge, having only guided the Italian club to an eighth-placed finish in Serie A, meaning they have missed out on European football for next season. Former manager Massimiliano Allegri takes over at San Siro, having spent four years in the dugout between 2010 and 2014, which included a Serie A title in 2011.

AC Milan have sacked head coach Sergio Conceicao after the club missed out on European football for next season and replaced him with Massimiliano Allegri.
The Portuguese signed an 18-month contract in December after taking over from Paulo Fonseca, but will depart San Siro after just six months in charge.
Milan’s former manager Allegri, who spent four years at the club between 2010 and 2014, will now return to the role.
Despite winning the Italian Super Cup a week into Conceicao’s reign, Milan went on to lose the Coppa Italia final to Bologna and finished eighth in Serie A.
The club’s league position means they miss out on European football for next season as local rivals Inter Milan prepare for the UEFA Champions League final this weekend - live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
Milan said in a statement on Thursday: "AC Milan and Sergio Conceicao will not continue their journey together next season.

"The club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication in leading the team in recent months.
"The Rossoneri family bids farewell to the coach who contributed to the conquest of the 50th trophy in Milan's history, wishing him the best for his future."

The club then confirmed Allegri as Conceicao's replacement on Friday, and he returns to Milan after previously coaching the side between 2010 and 2014.
During that time, he led The Rossoneri to Scudetto in his first season at the club and followed that up with an Italian Super Cup success.
The 57-year-old subsequently spent two spells in charge of Juventus, winning five more Serie A titles, five Copa Italia trophies and two more Italian Super Cups.
