Rasmus Hojlund joins Napoli from Manchester United on permanent deal - 'All the very best'

He ends his time at Old Trafford with 26 goals in 95 appearances in all competitions.

Hojlund had spent last season on loan at Napoli, scoring 16 times in 44 games across all competitions, including 12 in Serie A.

The Denmark international helped Napoli to finish second in Serie A and win the Supercoppa.

Hojlund, who was a United fan growing up, joined the Premier League club in 2023 from Atalanta in Italy for a reported fee of £72 million.

He was part of the United team which won the Emirates FA Cup in 2024, coming off the bench in the final against Manchester City at Wembley.

Hojlund was a regular starter under then-head coach Erik ten Hag but fell out of favour after the Dutchman was replaced by Ruben Amorim in November 2024.

Following Amorim's appointment on November 1, Hojlund scored just three goals in the remainder of the Premier League season, often battling with Joshua Zirkzee for the starting striker spot.

In the summer transfer window, Hojlund was sent out to Napoli on loan while United brought in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

And under head coach Antonio Conte in Naples, Hojlund seemed to rediscover the form he had shown when he broke onto the scene at Atalanta.

The 23-year-old ended the season in impressive fashion in particular, scoring twice and providing four assists in Napoli's final seven league games.

Following his permanent move to Napoli, Hojlund will continue to be in competition with another former United striker, Romelu Lukaku, for the starting striker spot.

And another ex-United midfielder, Scott McTominay, will also be helping Hojlund with the scoring efforts, having scored 27 goals in 80 appearances since moving to Naples in 2024.

Napoli are searching for a new head coach this summer after Conte stepped down at the end of the season.

Conte had led the club to its fourth Serie A title in 2024/25 but rumours have circulated that he could become Italy head coach for a second spell.

Hojlund made his professional debut for Copenhagen in Denmark before really finding his scoring boots during a short stint at Strum Graz in Austria.

In his one season at Atalanta, he scored 16 goals and made 42 appearances in all competitions.

He was seen as one of the most exciting young attackers in European football at the time and had a number of suitors reportedly interested in his signing.

But it was United who acquired his services, with John Murtough - then-football director at United - saying Hojlund "ranks among the best players in the world for his age group."

Despite the promise he showed, Hojlund failed to consistently score for United and was often the subject of criticism from fans for his wastefulness.
