La Liga relegation chaos! Titanic five-way battle set to decide who avoids drop on final day of season

Although the title has already been wrapped up, the final day of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign could yet prove to be one of the most dramatic in its history.

Barcelona might have the glory of being crowned champions, but, at the other end of the table, the battle to avoid the drop could hardly be tighter.
Real Oviedo’s relegation has already been confirmed, but above, there are still five teams who could mathematically join them in La Liga 2 next season.
Occupying the other two places in the drop zone going into the last day are Mallorca (19th) and Girona (18th), but with positions sure to chop and change throughout what could be a supercharged evening, it is set to come down to the wire.
With that in mind, let’s run through each team still in the relegation scrap and assess their hopes of survival.
Mallorca - 19th, 39 points
Mallorca have something of a mountain to climb if they are to survive. The first thing they must do is beat already-relegated Real Oviedo at home.
They then need Girona to beat Elche, Getafe to get the better of Osasuna, and Levante to avoid defeat away to Real Betis.

That will leave Mallorca level on points with Elche and Osasuna, and see them stay up due to their superior head-to-head record, which is how La Liga settles ties.
They find themselves in such a precarious position despite having the league’s second-highest goalscorer in their ranks.
Vedat Muriqi has found the net 22 times this season in La Liga, placing him behind only Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe (24).
Girona - 18th, 40 points
For Girona, the task could not be simpler. If they beat Elche at home, who sit one place and two points above them, they will avoid relegation.
If they draw or lose, they will be playing their football in La Liga 2 next season.
Elche - 17th, 42 points
As long as Elche do not lose to away to Girona, they won’t be relegated. Should they suffer defeat, though, it is likely they will slip into the bottom three.
The only way that won’t happen is if there ends up being a four-way tie on 42 points. And that requires Mallorca to beat Real Oviedo, Osasuna to lose to Getafe, and Levante to lose to Real Betis.

Osasuna - 16th, 42 points
For Osasuna, a win or a draw in their final game means they will stay up. However, they face a tough task away to seventh-placed Getafe, who will be eager to put pressure on Celta Vigo above them in the battle for European football.
And should Osasuna lose, they could be in trouble.
If they find themselves in a four-way tie with Mallorca, Elche and Levante on 42 points, Osasuna will be one of the two sides relegated. Likewise, if it comes down to a three-way tie with Mallorca and Elche, Osasuna will go down.
Levante - 15th, 42 points
At several stages throughout the season, Levante looked certain to be relegated. They were bottom of the table, level on nine points with Real Oviedo, after 14 games.
They have, however, produced something of a great escape. With six wins and a draw from their last nine fixtures, they sit two points above the relegation zone, and have their destiny in their own hands.

Provided they avoid defeat away to fifth-placed Real Betis, they will retain their spot in Spain’s top flight.
Should they lose, though, they can still go down if Girona beat Elche, Osasuna draw or win away to Getafe, and Mallorca lose or draw against Real Oviedo.
