Kylian Mbappe has been allowed to play in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, despite being handed a suspension for a shocking challenge during Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Alaves. The France striker was dismissed for an awful lunge on former Real midfielder Antonio Blanco, but he has only been given a one-match suspension, enabling him to play in the cup final on April 26.

Kylian Mbappe will be able to play in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, even though he was handed a suspension for his red card against Alaves.

The France international striker was dismissed for a shocking challenge on Antonio Blanco during Real Madrid's 1-0 win over the Liga strugglers, with Edouardo Camavinga's first-half strike the difference between the two sides.

Mbappe had been sweating over the verdict to come on the duration of his suspension, and if he were to be out for three matches, he would have been ruled out of the Copa del Rey final on April 26.

However, that is not the case, with the forward eligible to play a part in the El Clasico showdown after receiving a one-match ban.

It means that he will miss Real's La Liga fixture against Athletic Bilbao. He is still able to face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, exclusively live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Referee Cesar Soto Grado's report on the incident stated that Mbappe had been dismissed for "violent conduct", which usually stipulates between one and three-game suspensions, and the former Paris Saint-Germain striker has been given the lightest of punishments by a commission.

Soto Grado's report also said that Mbappe had been "disputing the ball", while the Spanish Football Federation's statement read: "Mbappe: one-match suspension for a violent incident occurring during the game or as a direct consequence of a game-related incident, with additional fines in accordance with Article 52 of the Civil Code."

While Mbappe will be suspended over the weekend, Carlo Ancelotti and his side will be able to count on their No. 9 as they look to do the impossible and overturn a 3-0 deficit against Arsenal in the Champions League.

Madrid, the current Champions League winners, are second in La Liga and trail table-topping Barcelona by four points.
