Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 3-1 win against Premier League side Chelsea.
The German giants took the lead through a Trevoh Chalobah own goal before the England captain doubled his side’s advantage from the penalty spot.
Kane’s international team-mate Cole Palmer got a goal back for the visitors, but the 32-year-old made sure of things in the second half.
It was a great start to the league phase for the Bundesliga champions, and now they can look ahead to their next Champions League clash, against Cypriot side Pafos on September 30.
However, the victory over Chelsea will mark a special landmark for Bayern Munich’s star striker.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man is no stranger to breaking records. He is already England’s all-time leading goalscorer, having surpassed Wayne Rooney in March 2023.
Indeed, Kane has 74 goals in 109 appearances for his country, a remarkable return for one of the national team’s greatest ever servants.

Kane’s new record
The England captain now has another record under his belt after being directly involved in more goals than any other Englishman in the history of the Champions League, according to Squawka.
Kane has 53 contributions in total - 42 goals and 11 assists - in 58 games.
He overtook another former England captain, David Beckham, to claim the record. Beckham set his tally during a remarkable career with Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Kane’s goals have come across spells with Bayern and Spurs. He made his Champions League debut for the north London side in a 2-1 loss against Monaco in September 2016.
He has never won the competition, but he did reach the final with Spurs during the 2018/19 campaign, where his side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Kane has made a ferocious start to the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. His Bayern side have recorded three wins from three, and he is on fire in front of goal.
