Arsenal sealed an important 3-1 victory against Everton at Goodison Park to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the Women's Super League table. Katie McCabe, Caitlin Foord and Olivia Smith scored the goals for The Gunners, who welcomed back Leah Williamson for the first time since the UEFA Euro 2025 final. Arsenal are now five points behind Man City in the WSL.

Arsenal defeated Everton 3-1 in the Women's Super League (WSL) to apply pressure on leaders Manchester City at the top of the table and claim their fourth win in a row in all competitions.

Katie McCabe, Caitlin Foord and Olivia Smith were on target for the European Champions, as they closed the gap at the summit to five points, while Leah Williamson came off the bench to play her first minutes since sustaining a knee injury during the Euro 2025 final playing for England.

In a frantic opening quarter of an hour at Goodison Park on Saturday, there were three goals in four minutes.

McCabe rifled The Gunners ahead from the edge of the box on 11 minutes, galloping from left-back and striking a bouncing clearance back towards goal with precision, finding the bottom-right corner.

But Renee Slegers' side were pegged back just two minutes later when Honoka Hayashi struck for a second successive week - having scored the goal to end Chelsea's 34-match unbeaten run last weekend - finding the top corner with a sweet strike from just outside the penalty box.

But it was not long before the visiting side had their noses in front again, as Alessia Russo's touch was cleared off the line, only for Foord to follow up on the rebound to poke home and make it 2-1 in the 15th minute.

The contest remained close until the closing minutes, when former Liverpool player Smith rubbed salt into the wounds of her old rivals with a third goal to wrap up victory to add gloss to the scoreline.

Smith, the first £1 million player in women's football, let the ball bounce up just outside the box before picking up the bottom corner with a great strike.

Arsenal took the chance to apply pressure on Man City with the victory, preventing the chance for Andree Jeglertz's side to stretch their lead to nine points after 11 games.

For Arsenal, that is one win chalked off for the club on Saturday, with the men's team in action later in the day.

They take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - as they look to strengthen their grip at the top of the Premier League table.
