England captain Ben Stokes will be aiming to emulate former skipper Andrew Strauss in leading his side to an Ashes series victory in Australia, just as the Middlesex man did back in 2010-11.
The last series, played in England in 2023, saw an overall 2-2 draw as Australia retained the Ashes urn, which they have held since the 2017-18 edition.
England have tended to struggle in recent Ashes series Down Under, but during their victorious 2010-11 campaign, they found something very special.
Coach Brendon McCullum, overseeing his second Ashes campaign, should be pleased with how their warm-up match against the England Lions started, as he watched Stokes take a six-wicket haul on the opening day of action, with Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Joe Root and Josh Tongue also chipping in with one wicket each.
